چکیده
Abstract This paper provides a pedagogical introduction to recent developments in geometrical and topological band theory following the discovery of graphene insulators. Amusingly, many these have connection contributions high-energy physics by Dirac. The review starts presentation Dirac magnetic monopole, goes on with Berry phase two-level system geometrical/topological for Bloch electrons crystals. Next, specific examples tight-binding models giving rise lattice versions equation various space dimension are presented: 1D (Su–Schrieffer–Heeger (SSH) Rice–Mele models), 2D (graphene, boron nitride, Haldane model) 3D (Weyl semi-metals). focus is insulators semi-metals. latter Fermi surface that characterized as defect. For insulators, two alternative view points twisted fiber bundles textures developed. minimal mathematical background topology (essentially homotopy groups bundles) provided when needed. Topics rarely reviewed include: periodic versus canonical Hamiltonian (basis I/II issue), Zak phase, vanishing electric polarization SSH model

Geometrical Aspects of Representation Theory
1. Geometry of primitive ideals. 1.1. Let G be a complex algebraic group with Lie algebra g. I would like to have a geometric picture for the structure of primitive ideals of the enveloping algebra U(g). The only universal answer known so far is the "orbit method," saying that primitive ideals should correspond to coadjoint orbits in the dual g* of g. Sometimes this principle doesn't work, howe...
متن کاملGeometrical aspects of statistical learning theory
Geometry plays an important role in modern statistical learning theory, and many different aspects of geometry can be found in this fast developing field. This thesis addresses some of these aspects. A large part of this work will be concerned with so called manifold methods, which have recently attracted a lot of interest. The key point is that for a lot of real-world data sets it is natural t...
متن کاملTopological aspects of geometrical signatures of phase transitions.
Certain geometric properties of submanifolds of configuration space are numerically investigated for classical phi(4) models in one and two dimensions. Peculiar behaviors of the computed geometric quantities are found only in the two-dimensional case, when a phase transition is present. The observed phenomenology strongly supports, though in an indirect way, a recently proposed topological conj...
متن کاملStrain-driven band inversion and topological aspects in Antimonene
Searching for the two-dimensional (2D) topological insulators (TIs) with large bulk band gaps is the key to achieve room-temperature quantum spin Hall effect (QSHE). Using first-principles calculations, we demonstrated that the recently-proposed antimonene [Zhang et al., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 54, 3112-3115 (2015)] can be tuned to a 2D TI by reducing the buckling height of the lattice which can ...
متن کاملAlgebraic and topological aspects of quasi-prime ideals
In this paper, we define the new notion of quasi-prime ideal which generalizes at once both prime ideal and primary ideal notions. Then a natural topology on the set of quasi-prime ideals of a ring is introduced which admits the Zariski topology as a subspace topology. The basic properties of the quasi-prime spectrum are studied and several interesting results are obtained. Specially, it is pro...
